Korean Officials: Restarting the DPRK-ROK Economic Cooperation Project will boost the process of denuclearization of the Peninsula

[Global Network Report] According to Yonhap News Agency on March 5, South Korean Unification Ministry officials said at a press conference on May 5 that restarting Kaesong Industrial Park and Mount Kumgang tourism will benefit both sides, help improve inter-Korean relations, promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and contribute to denuclearization of the peninsula.

The official said that the Korean government will consult with the US side on restarting the DPRK-ROK economic cooperation project. The two sides are at the exploratory stage and have not yet formally discussed it, so it will take some time.

South Korean Unification Minister Zhao Mingjun said at the plenary meeting of the National Security Conference (NSC) on the 4th that the Unification Ministry will prepare for discussions with the United States on restarting the Kaesong Industrial Park and Mount Kumgang tourism projects.

Unification Ministry officials said that the ROK should make careful choices in monitoring the situation and playing a good offices role, and play a corresponding role in a timely manner. Promoting inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation within the framework of sanctions against the DPRK is the consistent position of the ROK.
