To promote the rapid popularization of 5G networks and terminals, Zhang Yunyong put forward two suggestions. For the application of 5G at the industrial level, Zhang Yunyong said that he preferred the combination of 5G and industrial internet. Firstly, 5G and industrial Internet complement each other, both of which are written in the government work report; secondly, Chinas industrial categories are particularly complete, and some typical vertical industries are transforming to intelligent equipment, so I think the combination of the two is the combination ofstrong and strong. To promote the deep integration of 5G and other industries, Zhang Yunyong suggested that policy should guide the cross-border integration of telecommunications industry with advanced manufacturing, intelligent medicine, automatic driving and so on; technical standards should be formulated for different industries to overcome the technical barriers of cross-border integration. For areas involving multisectoral supervision, it is suggested to strengthen collaboration between departments. For example, for automatic driving, it is suggested that government departments strengthen cooperation to promote joint construction and collaborative tackling of key problems among transportation infrastructure manufacturers, automobile manufacturers, AI application service providers and communication enterprises.

In addition, Zhang Yunyong believes that the main problem facing 5G network construction is capital. Compared with 4G network, 5G wireless base station equipment has a high unit price and a high 5G frequency, which makes it more dense and difficult to add new sites. 5G bandwidth has a great demand for transmission network, so the investment cost of 5G network will increase dramatically. According to relevant research reports, the cumulative investment will reach 2.3 trillion yuan, and the investment scale is about four times that of 4G. In addition, under the same base station scale, 5G network operation costs will be several times higher than 4G, and electricity expenditure will increase by more than two times.


Nandu: From 5G trial commercial to formal commercial, what preparations are being made?

Population coverage and area coverage should have certain indicators. The second is the further maturity of terminals, which can be listed sporadically in the second half of the year, and can be listed on a large scale in another year, so that the price can be reduced to the same level as the current 4G. The third preparatory work is to synchronize the incubation of industrial chains, not just have a network, no business.

Zhang Yunyong: The number of 5G may be the same as the current number. This need not be too concerned. The 5G network is expected to be operational in another year. In fact, 2019 is the first year of 5G commerce, but the scale will be smaller, large-scale will wait for another year.

Nandu: How will the traffic fee change in the 5G era compared with that in the 4G era?

Zhang Yunyong: I can only say that it is not higher than 4G. If its the unit price ratio of traffic, its definitely lower than before 4G. But because the package has not been decided, foreign countries have not been completely settled.
