ROK Radio and Television Reporter: Hello, Spokesperson. I am a reporter from ROK Radio and Television. At the second DPRK-US summit meeting, the two sides failed to reach an agreement. So what do you think is the core issue to achieve denuclearization of the peninsula in the next step? What is Chinas role in solving these problems? Thank you.
Zhang Yesui: Thank you for your question. The DPRK-US leaders met in Hanoi. Indeed, as you said, no outcome document was published. However, we note that both sides have expressed in-depth communication, and both sides have expressed their willingness to continue the dialogue. We believe that this meeting is constructive.
As you all know, the Korean Peninsula issue is very complex and sensitive. It is not easy to solve it, nor can we expect it to be solved through one or two meetings. And with the deepening of negotiations, it is inevitable to encounter such difficulties. We believe that the key is to adhere to the correct path of political settlement and the correct direction of realizing denuclearization of the peninsula and establishing a mechanism for peace on the peninsula.
The DPRK and the United States are key parties to the Peninsula issue. We hope that the DPRK and the United States will have firm beliefs, remain patient, talk in the right direction and make new progress. It is in the interests of all parties to maintain peace and stability on the peninsula. China is committed to the denuclearization of the peninsula and the establishment of a peninsula peace mechanism, and has played a positive and constructive role in this regard. China will continue to make positive efforts in its own way. Thank you.
