Introduction SUV! Musk: Tesla Model Y will be released on March 14

Netease Technologies News, March 4, according to TheVerge, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on March 3 that the company will launch the Model Y cross-border SUV at its design studio in Los Angeles on March 14.

The new electric car will be Teslas fifth since its inception in 2003. ModelY will share about 75% of its components with Model3, which is the cheapest model in Tesla today.

ModelY will be produced at the Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada, in Tesla, and is expected to enter mass production in 2020. Tesla eventually plans to produce ModelY at a super factory in Shanghai, China.

Just three days before Musks announcement, Tesla finally began offering consumers a $35,000 base version of Model3.

Tesla has so far shown only one rendering of ModelY, showing only a simple black-and-white outline. But the company has been working on this car for years. In 2015, Musk published the name of ModelY on Twitter, and then quickly deleted it.

In addition, Musk has repeatedly discussed whether the compact SUV will be built on the same technology platform as Model 3, and finally decided whether to share technology between the two models so that ModelY can be brought to market in time. Tesla finalized the final design at the end of last year, Musk said.

Musk previously joked that ModelY would be released on March 15, because it sounds like a good day. Earlier this month, some Chinese media speculated that Tesla might wait until the Shanghai Motor Show in April to release the car.

Musk also said on Twitter Sunday that the third generation Supercharger electric vehicle charging station will open this week. The first Supercharger electric vehicle charging station will start service at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, but he did not reveal the location. (small)
