On July 27 and December 18, 2017, the Liuzhou Intermediate Court opened a public hearing on the case of the defendant Tan Mingzhengs intentional homicide and arson, and on December 20, the first instance judgment was made. The defendant Tan Mingzheng was convicted of intentional homicide and sentenced to death and deprivation of political rights for life; the offender of explosion was sentenced to death with a two-year suspension of execution and deprivation of political rights for life; the decision was made to impose death penalty and deprive of political rights for life. Tan Mingzheng once fell in love with Huang Mozhen, the daughter of the victim Huang Mosheng (59 years old), and later Huang Mozhen proposed to break up and refused to meet Tan Ming. On the morning of July 9, 2016, Tan Ming was carrying a sharp knife to Huangs home and asked Huang to call Huang for an interview. Because he was rejected by Huang Mozhen, Tan Mingzheng was angry at Huang Mozheng and entangled with Huang Jia. At about 16 oclock that day, Tan Ming was taking advantage of Huang Mous unprepared life, slashing Huang Mous head with a sharp knife and stabbing Huangs waist and abdomen to cause his instant death. After review, the Supreme Peoples Court held that the defendant, Tan Mingzheng, had deliberately and illegally deprived other people of their lives, and his act constituted the crime of intentional homicide; he deliberately detonated liquefied gas tanks to endanger public safety by means of explosion, and his act constituted the crime of explosion and should be punished in accordance with the law. Tan Ming was murdering his girlfriends father after her girlfriend refused to associate with her, and was plotted to retaliate against her father and divide her body after the murder. In order to escape punishment, she wounded herself and ignited liquefied gas, endangering the safety of most unspecified people, resulting in one death. Tan Mingzhengs crime of intentional homicide is particularly cruel and serious, and should be punished according to law. The facts ascertained in the first and second trial rulings are clear, the evidence is solid and sufficient, the conviction is accurate and the sentencing is appropriate. The trial procedure is lawful. Accordingly, the Higher Peoples Court of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been approved in accordance with the law to uphold the criminal ruling of first instance that the defendant Tan Mingzheng was sentenced to death for intentional homicide and explosion and deprived of political rights for life.
