Beijing, Jan. 24, Jan. 23, on the morning of Jan. 23, Vice Minister Qian Feng of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs met with visiting Director of the International Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Defense of Korea, Li Yuanyi and his delegation. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on issues of common concern, such as the handover of the remains of Korean volunteer martyrs, and expressed their willingness to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two ministries in relevant fields.
Following the meeting, the Chinese delegation led by Li Guiguang, Deputy Director of Commemoration Department of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, and the Korean delegation led by Lee Yuanyi, Director of the International Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Defence of Korea, held consultations on the handover of the remains of the Sixth Batch of Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army martyrs in Korea, reached agreement and signed the minutes of the talks. According to the consensus reached through consultation between the two sides, the ROK will hand over a batch of remains of martyrs and related relics of the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army to China again on April 3 this year. Before that, the two sides will hold a funeral ceremony in Korea on April 1.
Following the principles of humanitarianism, in the spirit of friendly consultation and pragmatic cooperation, China and South Korea have successfully handed over the remains of 589 martyrs of the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army in Korea for five consecutive years from 2014 to 2018. This year is the sixth handover in accordance with the consensus reached between China and South Korea. In the future, the remains of the Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army martyrs excavated in Korea will continue to be handed over to China.
During the talks, both sides indicated that they would actively negotiate and properly hand over the remains of the Sixth Batch of Chinese Peoples Volunteer Army martyrs in Korea.
