Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University went to Beijing to serve as Vice-Minister of the United Front Department of the New Central Committee

According to Peoples Daily News: On January 22, the fifth meeting of the 7th Standing Council of the European and American StudentsAssociation (China Association for Overseas Students) was held in Beijing. Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress and President of the European and American StudentsAssociation (China Association for Overseas Students), made a working report. Zou Xiaodong, Vice-Minister of the United Front Department of the Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Wang Pijun, Secretary-General of the Party Group of the European and American Students Association, presided over the meeting.

This shows that Zou Xiaodong, previously Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, has been acting as vice-minister of the United Front Department of the new Central Committee, which is also the first time that he has left Zhejiang Province to serve.

According to the open resume, Zou Xiaodong was born in September 1967. He studied in the Department of Materials, Zhejiang University. After graduation in 1988, he stayed at the university. He has served as Vice-Director of the Office of the President of Zhejiang University, Secretary of the Party Committee of the City College of Zhejiang University, Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University, Minister of Organizational Department and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University.

In 2016, Zou Xiaodong left Zhejiang University and was transferred to the Vice-Minister of Organizational Department of Zhejiang Provincial Committee (at the level of Zhengzhou Hall). One year later, he returned to Zhejiang University and became Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang University until his transfer.

Zou Xiaodong has worked in Zhejiang University for 30 years and has expressed his views on higher education on many occasions.

During last years NPC and CPPCC sessions, Zou Xiaodong said in an interview that good universities are not only reflected in the rankings. The development of higher education should focus on the social needs. Only by moving towards diversification and specialization can we continuously provide high-quality innovative talents and open up the dream of a powerful country in higher education.

At present, there is a phenomenon of quick success and instant benefit in higher education. We pay more attention to all kinds of indicators and rankings, and are used to using the world university rankings to understand and judge the first-class universities, which is not conducive to the long-term development of education. In Zou Xiaodongs eyes, although the number of papers published can intuitively reflect the teaching results and teachers, it is difficult to quantify the university culture and its contribution to the development of the national region.

He said that good universities are not just reflected in the rankings. Students need to teach in accordance with their aptitude, and the development of schools should follow this rule and pay attention to diversification in talent cultivation. Colleges and universities shoulder the responsibility of transporting different talents for the society. Only by finding their own orientation can they cultivate talents that meet the needs of economic and social development.

Zou Xiaodong, taking Zhejiangs economic development in recent years as an example, points out that Beijing University, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University are not the only candidatesfirst targets. Encouraging diversified and characteristic development is a good school and can cultivate good talents.

We should do a good job in teachersideological and political work, further strengthen the political training and social practice of teachers, systematically improve teachers political literacy and national feelings; strengthen the construction of teachersmorality and style of teaching, further strengthen the investigation of morality in teachers evaluation; create a good ecological environment for teachersdevelopment, increase the efforts of attracting high-level teachers, scientifically evaluate teachers and effectively motivate teachers.
