According to foreign media reports, Tesla has signed a preliminary agreement with Tianjin Lishen to supply batteries to Tesla Shanghai Super Factory, reducing its dependence on Panasonic batteries in Japan.
It is reported that the two companies have not yet made a decision on the size of Teslas order. Tianjin Lishen is still studying the battery specifications required by Tesla.
Although Panasonic is currently Teslas sole battery supplier and carries Panasonic batteries in its Model3, ModelS and ModelX models, Elon Musk, Teslas CEO, said in November last year that the company would produce all battery modules and batteries at its Shanghai plant and planned to diversify its sources.
Tianjin Lishen is not outstanding in the shipment volume of domestic battery enterprises. Its market share is much lower than that of Ningde era and BYD. It is similar to Guoxuan Gaoke, Funeng Technology and Bike Battery.
However, Tianjin Lishen has provided batteries for Jianghuai Automobile, Changan Automobile and other traditional automobile companies. It is also a battery supplier for Weima Automobile, a new force in automobile manufacturing. It remains to be seen how the cooperation between Tianjin Lishen and Tesla will proceed.
