Chinas detention of Canadian citizens affects exchanges with other countries? Foreign Ministry response

On January 21, 2019, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying hosted a regular press conference. Some Western scholars and officials were concerned that the detention of Canadian citizens Cummingkai and Michael by the Chinese side would create a deterrent effect, which would affect exchanges and understanding between other countries and China. What is Chinas response to this?

Hua Chunying responded, I dont know who the Western officials and scholars you mentioned are? How much truth do they know about the cases of these two Canadian citizens? The Chinese side has made it clear that Canadian citizens Cummingkai and Michael are suspected of engaging in activities that endanger Chinas national security. The relevant Chinese authorities take compulsory measures against them in accordance with the law.

Our attitude towards China-foreign exchanges is clear. China welcomes foreign citizens to carry out normal friendly exchanges in China. As long as they abide by Chinese laws and regulations, there is nothing to worry about.
