 Last years National Air Quality: PM2.5 Decreases Ozone Concentration Rises


On the morning of January 21, the Ministry of Ecological Environment held its first press conference this year to introduce the progress of the Blue Sky Defense War. Liu Bingjiang, Director of the Department of Atmospheric Environment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that in 2018, the average proportion of good days in 338 cities at prefecture level and above was 79.3%, 1.3 percentage points higher than that of the previous year; the proportion of heavy pollution days was 2.2%, 0.3 percentage points lower than that of the previous year; the concentration of PM2.5 was 39 micrograms/cubic meters, 9.3% lower than that of the previous year; the concentration of PM10 was 71 micrograms/cubic meters, 5.3% lower than that of the previous year; and the ozone concentration was 151.3%. Microgram/cubic metre, up 1.3%, sulfur dioxide concentration was 14 microgram/cubic metre, down 22.2%, nitrogen dioxide concentration was 29 microgram/cubic metre, down 6.5%, carbon monoxide concentration was 1.5 mg/cubic metre, down 11.8%.

According to the completion of the 13th Five-Year Plan environmental air quality restrictive indicators, in 2018, the average concentration of 262 cities whose PM2.5 did not meet the target was 43 micrograms/cubic meters, down 10.4% from the same period last year, down 24.6% from 2015, and the average proportion of good days in 338 cities was 79.3%, up 2.6 percentage points from 2015, exceeding the schedule and annual target requirements.
