The MK-4 multi-purpose landing ship is a modified version of the MK-3 landing ship of the Indian Navy fleet in active service. This is the fifth MK-4 landing ship, and the first MK-4 landing ship, L-51, was shipped to the Indian Navy in March 2017.
The ship has undergone major modifications to improve ergonomics, habitability and layout in key areas, Gardenridge Shipbuilding Engineering said in a press release.
These amphibious landing vessels, developed by the internal design team of Gardenridge Shipbuilding Engineering Company, are unique in design and operation. They are 62.8 metres in length, 15 knots in speed and 1.8 metres in draft water. This proves once again the ability of Gardenridge Shipbuilding Engineering to provide one-to-one solutions for its customers.
The landing ship will be commanded by Major Abishak Kumar and will accommodate five officers and 45 sailors.
