 Google has a new brothers company: store electricity in salt and release it when needed


Netease Technologies News Dec. 20, according to foreign media reports, the company recently independent from the X Department of Alphabet. The company uses cheap materials such as salt, antifreeze and steel to store electricity on a large scale.

Malta uses thermodynamic laws to store renewable and fossil energy as heat in molten salts, and then freeze them in cryoprotectants until they are extracted when needed. The company is setting up a pilot plant with a $26 million initial round of financing from a fund co-founded by Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg.

Especially for wind and solar farms, power storage is often a cumbersome and expensive problem. Providing them with reliable and inexpensive ways to keep electricity in reserve can reduce waste and help renewable energy companies produce more electricity. (Han Bing)
