Reported that a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they knew a Canadian citizen had been detained, but did not provide further details for privacy reasons.
The National Post said it could not confirm the third detained Canadian citizenship, but according to people familiar with the matter, the person was neither a diplomat nor a Canadian business person in China.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that two Canadian citizens had been taken compulsory measures according to law on suspicion of engaging in activities endangering Chinas national security. In these two cases, China and Canada maintained smooth consular communication.
