Does China support plunging African countries into huge debts? Response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Global Times - Global Network reported that on December 19, 2018, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying presided over a regular press conference. The following are some facts.

Q: It is reported that on the 18th, President Juncker of the European Commission said at a press conference of the European High-level Forum on Africa that in many cases, Chinas support to Africa has led many African countries to huge debts. This is not the case in EU-Africa relations, and we have done better in this regard. What is Chinas comment on this?

A: China has always upheld the concept of genuineness and sincerity and the correct concept of righteousness and benefit, and has carried out mutually beneficial and win-win practical cooperation with African countries. It has strongly supported African economic development and livelihood improvement, and is widely welcomed by the African people and recognized by the international community. No African country is in debt difficulties because of its cooperation with China.

The debt problem of African countries is fundamentally the product of an unjust international economic order. At present, some African countries have debt problems. What are the causes? Who are the main creditors? The facts are also clear. It is hoped that relevant parties will do their part and increase their support for African economic development.
