Yuan Longping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the forum to talk about the future development of seawater rice.
Yuan Longping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said: Through 8 to 10 years of efforts, the country has developed to 100 million mu of salt-and-alkali-tolerant varieties, with an average output of 300 kilograms. In that year, we can increase the production of 30 billion kilograms of grain. What is the concept of 30 billion kilograms of grain? It is equivalent to the total grain output of Hunan Province in the whole year. Hunan Province is a major grain province. Its total grain output is 30 billion kg in the whole year. It can feed 80 million people. Through 8 to 10 yearsefforts, we have developed 100 million mu of saline-alkali land. There are more than 1 billion mu (saline-alkali land) including beach in our country. We have developed this saline-alkali land to 100 million mu for 8 to 10 years.

Yuan Longping said, One dream is to enjoy the cool under the grain. It is my dream that this high-yielding rice grows taller than sorghum, ears are longer than broomsticks, and grains are as big as peanuts. I am so happy to enjoy the cool under the grain called the dream ofenjoy the cool under the grain. The second dream covers the global dream. There are 160 million hectares of paddy fields in the world. If half of the paddy fields are planted with hybrid rice, the yield will be increased by 2 tons per hectare, 160 million tons of grain will be produced, and 500 million more people will be fed. These are two dreams.
