15-year-old Swedish girl criticizes climate conference participants: You are not mature enough

A 15-year-old Swedish girl gave a speech at the 24th UN Climate Change Conference on Wednesday (12). Almost 190 countries have been humiliated, CNN said. What happened?

CNN17 reported that the girl, Greta Thunberg, criticized the participants at the conference for gathering here to make rules for the implementation of the Paris Agreement of 2015, but abandoning future generations.

You said you loved everything about your childrens lives, but you stole their future in front of them. Tonberry said so.

CNN said the so-called Paris Rulebook reached on the 15th failed to achieve its goals. Scientists and delegates believe that countries must do far more to curb the use of fossil fuels and deforestation than the manual requires in order to avoid bad weather such as global warming.

Reported that last September, Tonberry played truant and protested against climate change outside the Swedish parliament, making her a symbol of Youth Climate activists. This has inspired thousands of children to unite for climate justice.

The following is the full text of Tonberrys speech:

My name is Greta Tonberry. Im 15 years old. Im Swedish.

I now speak on behalf of Climate Justice.

Many people say that Sweden is only a small country and what we do is not important.

But I know you will never be too small to do anything.

If a couple of kids can make headlines around the world without going to school, imagine what we can do if we really want to do something together. But if we do, we must make it clear, no matter how difficult it may be.

You only talk about safe and lasting economic growth because you are too afraid to be unwelcome. Youre only talking about bad ideas that put us in this mess, but the only sensible thing to do is to stop right away.

You are not mature enough to say it like this. You left this burden to our children, but I dont care if its popular or not. I am concerned about climate justice and the planet we live on.

Our civilization is being sacrificed in exchange for the opportunity for a very small number of people to continue to make a lot of money.

Our biosphere is being sacrificed to enable the rich in all countries, including our own, to live in luxury. It is the pain of the majority to pay for the luxury of the few.

In 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I had children, maybe they would spend the day with me. Maybe theyll ask me about you. Maybe theyll ask why you didnt do anything while you still had time to act.

You say, you love your children more than anything else. But you steal their future in front of the children.

There is no hope unless you start to focus on what needs to be done, not what is politically possible. If we dont treat the crisis as a crisis, we cant solve it. We need to bury fossil fuels underground, and we need to value fairness. If we cant find solutions under the current system, then maybe we should change the system itself. We are not here to solicit the attention of world leaders. Leaders have neglected us in the past and will again. We have no excuses. We are running out of time. We are here to let leaders know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people. Thank you. Source: Global Times - Global Network.
