According to Yonhap News Agency, South Koreas Ministry of Defense and Joint Staff Headquarters said on December 17 that, after field inspection, the DPRK has completed the removal of 11 guard posts (GPs) in the demilitarized zone, all of which have lost the function of military facilities.

Earlier, the DPRK and the ROK agreed to withdraw personnel and equipment from 11 posts in the demilitarized zone, and to dismantle the remaining 10 posts, with the exception of retaining one post for non-destruction. On December 12, the South Korean and North Korean military completed mutual inspection of the status of withdrawal posts in the demilitarized zone.

Reported that the South Korean military said on the 17th, after on-site inspection and evaluation analysis, the personnel and equipment of the DPRK outpost have been withdrawn, currently unable to carry out monitoring tasks. Most of the facilities of the post were buried or cleared after blasting, and some of the gunholes were still identifiable, but they had lost their function.

On the other hand, DPRK officials also made positive comments on the removal of Korean posts. But South Korea is required to remove the debris and barbed wire as soon as possible.

On September 19, this year, during the Wenjin Club in Pyongyang, South Korean Defense Minister Song Yongwu and the Korean people signed a military agreement to stop all hostile acts and ease military tensions between the North and the South.

On October 26, the ROK and the DPRK held military talks at the general level in Panmunjom. They agreed to withdraw personnel and equipment from 11 guard posts in the demilitarized zone near the border, and to completely remove these posts by the end of November. The two sides will pass mutual inspection in December, and finally confirm that the relevant evacuation measures will be completed by the end of the year.
