At 12:46 on December 16, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred in Xingwen County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province (28.24 degrees north latitude and 104.95 degrees east longitude), with a focal depth of 12 km. According to China Seismological Network, the epicenter is about 20 kilometers from Xingwen County, 30 kilometers from Kunxian County, 40 kilometers from Changning County, 40 kilometers from Dunlian County, 40 kilometers from Weixin County, 50 kilometers from Gaoxian County, 70 kilometers from Yibin City and 270 kilometers from Chengdu City. The population density within the 50 km epicenter is about 370 people per square kilometer.
