The news was posted on Facebook by the Ukrainian General Staff on December 15, and the Ukrainian General Staff wrote as follows:

The crashed Su-27 fighter aircraft belonged to the 831 regiment of the Ukrainian Central Air Force Command, the only remaining Su-27 unit of the Ukrainian Air Force. The Ukrainian Air Force currently has 21 MiG-29 and 16 Su-27 fighter planes. During the 14-year Crimean crisis, 45 MiG-29 fighter planes of the Ukrainian Air Force were controlled by the Russian army.

This is the second fatal accident of Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 aircraft this year. In October, a Ukrainian Su-27UB two-seater fighter plane crashed during a clear sky-2018 exercise in Ukraine, killing an American pilot and a Ukrainian pilot.

After the crisis in the Kachi Strait, the domestic situation in Ukraine was turbulent, which made the Ukrainian Air Force increase its frequency of operation.
