Canada recently unearthed a yellow diamond weighing 552 carats, making it the largest diamond ever found in North America.
The diamond, 33.74 mm long and 54.56 mm wide, was discovered by Dominion Diamond Mines in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Northwest Canada, CNN reported Friday.
At a news conference Thursday, local time, Chief Diamond said the diamond was found in a preliminary screening process at the Davidco Diamond Mine and was amazingly intact.
Leading Diamond also said it was too early to determine the value of the diamond. The company will choose a partner to cut and polish the stone.
Before the discovery of the diamond, the largest diamond found in North America was the Diavik Foxfire in 2015, weighing 187.7 carats, and was also found in the Davik Diamond Mine, according to the company in charge.
